Basic Radar/ECDIS maintainers course for shipboard navigation personnel.

 

We are trying to launch a new iniative that will help reduce costs for shipping companies with regards to basic maintenance of the vessels radar and ecdis systems.

 

Whilst most companies employ the onboard Electro Technical Officers (ETO's) or marine engineering departments to repair the marine and or ecdis systems, they have no understanding of the systems from an operational level or the implications it has on COLREGS or SOLAS regs for the navigation and ultimately the master.

 

What we at Horizon Maritime Services Ltd, are doing is to propose that a select number of the ships navigational officers are trained to do basic level repairs and fault finding of the radar and ecdis systems, this is to help in repair and diagnostic time, but ultimately its help with the affected systems being "down or unserviceable", or a costly service agent being called out at the next port of call for a simple defect.

 

The individual or group selected do not need to have any formal electronic qualifications to do the course as all aspects will be taught a fundemental level to ease learning.

 

But we need your input into what you would like on the course and what issues/defects are taught.
